Six-panel comic. Sparky the Eagle plays tic-tac-toe against himself, determined to win instead of tie. When he cheers that he’s finally won, Rebekah points out that means he also lost, leaving him dazed.

Note: This gag was inspired by a funny exchange I had with friend in high school! During one class in which I was particularly struggling to focus, I began to play tic-tac-toe against myself. My friend looked over and said “Man, you suck at this.” I, having just placed the final ‘X’ in a row, responded, “What do you mean? I won!” We both got a kick out of that.

Transcript: Panel 1: Sparky the Eagle sits at a table with a pen in his wing and a paper with a tic-tac-toe game in front of him. His tongue sticks out as he concentrates. Rebekah waves at him, looking puzzled, with a question mark over her head.

Sparky (thinking): “Hmm… think, Sparky. THINK!”

Rebekah: “Hey, Sparky. Uh… what are you doing?”

Panel 2: Sparky keeps his eyes on the paper. Rebekah looks tired and annoyed.

Sparky: “Don’t distract me, Rebekah. I’ve FINALLY almost done it.”

Rebekah (thinking): “I knew I shouldn’t have asked…”

[Sigh, from Rebekah]

Panel 3: Sparky looks wide-eyed and hopeful, his pen still on the paper. Rebekah watches, unimpressed, tapping her fingers on the table.

Sparky: “I’ve been trying to win in tic-tac-toe, but it’s always a tie…”

Sparky: “This is the one! I KNOW it!”

[Tap tap, from Rebekah]

Panel 4: Sparky’s eyes sparkle and an exclamation mark appears beside his head. Rebekah keeps tapping, her face blank.

Sparky: “Yes! I’ve finally done it! I’ve WON!”

[Tap tap, from Rebekah]

Panel 5: Sparky looks confused, with a question mark beside his head. Rebekah raises a hand, a little awkward.

Rebekah: “Uh… Sparky? Doesn’t that mean you LOST?”

Panel 6: Sparky stares with spiral eyes and his beak open, with shock lines beside his head. Rebekah smirks towards the reader.

Rebekah (thinking): “Heh.”
