Six-panel comic. Sparky the Eagle brags to a sleepy Rebekah about his 5am routine for 8am classes, then oversleeps until 8:42am.

Note: This was the first comic I made! I was really happy with how it turned out, especially considering it was my first foray into this kind of work. The panels in this strip are square, unlike the landscape style panels that I began using in every strip following. While I can definitely see the improvements between this strip and the newest ones, I think this one does a good job of introducing Sparky and Rebekah’s distinct personalities. I will always remember this strip fondly!

Transcript: Panel 1: Rebekah and Sparky the Eagle sit across from each other at a counter. Sparky is holding a cup of hot coffee.

Rebekah: “Good morning, Sparky.” [Yaaaaawn] “Man, I’m NOT ready for 8am classes tomorrow…”

[Puff puff, from Sparky blowing on his steaming cup]

Panel 2: Sparky raises a feather enthusiastically.

Sparky: “YOU may not be ready, but 8am is just the beginning for a bird like ME!”

Rebekah (thinking): “I’m sure…”

Panel 3: Sparky lectures with animated gestures while Rebekah rests her head on her hand.

Sparky: “First, I’ll wake up at 5am. Then, I’ll walk to the gym. I’ll jog back, shower, and…”

Rebekah (thinking): “I bet your coffee’s cooled down now…”

Panel 4: Sparky gestures with two feathers as Rebekah begins dozing off.

Sparky: “…And then I’ll get ahead on work, and then I’ll eat second breakfast, and…”

Panel 5: Rebekah has fallen completely asleep, her head flat on the counter.

Sparky: “Well, anyway… see you tomorrow, bright and early!”

[Snore snore, from Rebekah]
